Scholarships 

• Although ELDAN is in its formative stage and its capacity is somehow limited, so far it awarded eight scholarships. This will continue in the years to come with the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships.
• The other mechanism is encouraging interested people and friends of ELDAN to cover the expense of a child or more. So far ELDAN has been able to secure support for 28 students. ELDAN can help identifying children for anyone interested to commit themselves to support a child for a minimum of one cycle (first cycle is from grade 1-4, second cycle is grade 5-8, and third cycle is 9-10 grades). For the year 2007/2008 (2000 Ethiopian calendar) the approximate cost of school fee per child per year will be 1200 (one thousand two hundred Birr) or approximately USD 135. If a supporter wishes to cover transport cost, cost of books, exercise books and a child's uniform the total amount will approximately be USD 300. The class teacher of a scholarship student will serve as a contact person between the supporter and the child. The teacher will send progress report of the child at the beginning and end of every semester to the supporter. • In addition to the above scholarships designed to help students from low-income families, ELDAN is studying the way to establish a special scholarship fund for the most outstanding student. This initiative will be officially launched together with the complete opening of the third cycle.
